Airedale Springs is a leading independent spring manufacturer in the UK. Founded in 1945, employing 53 people, at its manufacturing facility in Haworth, West Yorkshire. It has always led the way in the development of production and employment initiatives. These have been recognised by it being the first spring manufacturer to be approved to BS5750 pt 2, and has remained approved to its successor standards including ISO 9001 (2000). It was also the first spring manufacturer to become recognised as an "Investor in People".
Airedale Springs Ltd passed its 6th IIP assessment on the 24th May 2005.
The assessor praised its commitment to the standard and noted the continuing involvement of employees in business improvement and quality issues.
Airedale Springs celebrated its Diamond Jubilee on th 7th June 2005.
In recognition of this achievement, a series of celebratory events are planned over the next 12 months, the first of which was held on Saturday 11th June.
At the suggestion of an employee and to raise money for Manorlands Hospice Oxenhope, a group of employees and relatives took the opportunity to abseil from the roof of Ebor Works mill building in Haworth.(see Home page for picture of building).
At a scene reminiscent of a public execution, over 70 people craning their necks from the ground below, watched in awe and terror as 11 brave people one after the other, climbed over the parapet, hung by a rope and then descended slowly to the ground, a drop of almost 100ft.
Much to the relief or disappointment of those watching, all those taking part safely reached the ground. One friend said "Just looking up made me feel sick, I don't know how they could do it", One employee taking part said " The view from the roof was fantastic".
£800 was raised by direct donation and sponsorship and Airedale Springs would like to thank all those who turned out for a very enjoyable and exciting event.
